Belfast TikTok star Olivia Neill shares her top beauty secrets

If you’re a beauty-lover on TikTok, chances are you’ve spotted Belfast woman Olivia Neill who has garnered an incredible 1.3 million followers on the social media platform.

Although YouTube is where she first shot to fame, and where she gained over 785k subscribers, she admits that TikTok is where she spends most of her time these days.

Olivia moved to London two years ago at the ripe old age of 18, and two years later has found herself the face of Rimmel’s new Thrill Seeker Mascara, an unmissable campaign splashed across London’s blackcabs and in Superdrugs around the UK.

The social media superstar is known for her super chatty weekly YouTube vlogs where she makes videos speaking to camera about everything and anything. Her easy demeanour makes listening to her seem like the most natural thing in the world, like one long WhatsApp voice note in your busiest group chat.

Lizzo got emotional after seeing a recent fan video on TikTok.

In a video posted to Lizzo’s account” class=”link “video posted to Lizzo’s account on Tuesday, the 34-year-old Grammy winner reacted to a video of a young girl confidently mimicking her dance moves from the “About Damn Time” music video, tearing up on-camera and expressing gratitude for the impact she has on those who look up to her.

Posted by TikTok user @dcromwelldc50 — aka Danielle, who’s the mother of young dancer Aria — the original clip sees her daughter wearing a white shirt and pink shorts with blue-beaded braids in her hair. While Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” music video plays on the TV, Aria stands in front and dances her heart out, hitting every move with impressive energy and finishing with an ear-to-ear grin — knowing she just killed it.

Lizzo reposted the clip alongside her reaction, appearing emotional and covering her own smiling mouth upon seeing Aria’s proud reaction at the end. She wrote in the post’s caption: “im crying cus this is EXACTLY why i do what I do 😭😭😭😭 i love you! Keep that confidence and beauty— no one can stop you!”

Beyond NFTs: Beauty pioneers' plans for Web3

If there is one industry that moves faster than beauty, with its forever-switching hues, textures and application ‘hacks’, it is tech.

So it stands to reason that the movers and shakers in our sector are not only adopting the latest methods of connecting with consumers, but adapting them in a way that is uniquely ‘beauty’.

The term Web3.0 was first coined by computer scientist Gavin Wood, one of the founders of the decentralised blockchain Ethereum, way back in 2014 and was quickly shortened by many to Web3.

Gaining traction since 2021 among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, it represents a version of the web where services are not hosted by a single company, but by everyone.

As a concept, it fits snugly with the more community-centric approach beauty players have been taking in recent years, encompassing crowdfunding, consumer-led product/brand development and the establishment of digital communities to generate content.

This year’s Viva Technology (or VivaTech) expo, held in Paris, France, from 15-18 June, brought together exhibitors and speakers from the likes of Apple, Linkedin, Snap Inc and Meta – and boasted an appearance from none other than the French President Emmanuel Macron. It also included three major players in beauty and beauty tech: L’Oréal Group, LVMH and Perfect Corp, and Cosmetics Business decided to do a deep dive into each company’s showcase at VivaTech 2022.

If you’ve spent much time online recently, then you’ll know that slugging has become a popular trend to lock in moisture and get a “glass skin” look. In case you’re unfamiliar with the technique, it’s an intensely moisturizing K-Beauty skincare process that originated in South Korea and involves lathering your face in Vaseline or a petrolatum-based product to help hydrate your skin overnight.

It has been a game-changing technique for my skin, so when hair slugging went hair-slugging%2F&referer_video_id=7066117462411988271&refer=embed&referer_url=” data-ylk=”slk:viral on TikTok” class=”link “viral on TikTok, I knew I had to try the trend too.

What is hair slugging?

The idea is simple: before bed, put a hair serum or oil on your hair, cover with a fuzzy sock to protect ends from friction and damage while you sleep, and you’ll hopefully wake up to the shiny hair of your dreams.

Because oiling and hydrating hair has been a part of my South Asian heritage for centuries, the concept didn’t feel foreign to me. However, I had never tried wrapping my hair in a fuzzy sock before, so that was a unique twist.

Ariana Grande responds to r.e.m. beauty brand criticism: ‘Remember you’re a singer’

Ariana Grande is saying “thank u, next” to critics who believe she is spending too much time focusing on her beauty brand, r.e.m. beauty, and not enough on new music.

Grande, who launched the cosmetics line in 2021, took to TikTok on 28 July to promote r.e.m. beauty’s latest range of concealers. The 29-year-old Grammy winner appeared make-up free in the short clip before showing off the new Sweetener concealer line, which includes 60 shades. Grande also provided a list of ingredients for the cruelty-free product, such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, and added that “a little goes a long way” when applying the concealer.

While the majority of comments under Grande’s TikTok video were positive, one social media troll felt the need to remind Grande, “pls remember you’re a singer,” but the pop star didn’t hold back in her response.

“I have actually never felt more at home in my voice or like more of a singer,” she replied along with four bubble emojis and a cheeky smiley face.

Grande’s response comes just two months after the singer revealed she has no plans to release new music as she gears up to play Glinda in the film adaptation of wicked” data-ylk=”slk:Wicked” class=”link “Wicked. While answering questions in a makeup tutorial posted to r.e.m. beauty’s YouTube channel, Grande admitted she has not begun working on a new album since the release of 2020’s positions.

“The truth is I have not begun an album,” she said. The singer explained that she did not feel ready to start working on a seventh album after the release of positions. It was also around this time that she began to hear murmurs of a Wicked movie audition coming her way, and wanted to dedicate her time preparing

Celeb makeup artist and LA recording artist to launch digital-first beauty brand, Bakeup

British-born makeup artist Jo Baker and recording artist Grace Gaustad are set to launch a new digitally advanced makeup brand, which looks to blur the lines between real-life beauty and the metaverse.

Set to release autumn 2022, on the heels of Gaustad’s second album, Bakeup aims to provide shoppers with products that expand the traditional meaning of makeup.

The partnership between the duo was born from previous makeup collaborations, bringing together their joint idea of storytelling through artistic beauty.

Together with Gaustad’s mother, beauty entrepreneur Cristina Carlino, the team strived to bring a “wildly irreverent makeup line” to the market, a press release read, with Carlino acting as a mentor.

The digital-first brand will offer limited-edition eye embellishments as non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for members of the non-fungible people (NFP) avatar community, augmented reality (AR) wearable filters for social media and real-life products available to purchase.
