A surf lesson, a slippery wedding ring and a leap of faith

It’s a beautiful morning on Maui’s south Kihei Road, a beachfront lined with palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze. The offshore waves are regular and gentle, making it a perfect spot for learning to surf, lulling me into believing everything’s going to be fine.

Mike, the surfing instructor, teaches me how to pick the right wave, orient my board perpendicular to the wave, paddle up to speed, and then stand up. It looks easy on TV, but I wipe out several times before catching my first wave. I balance on the board and ride it unsteadily into shore. A large blond woman blocks the channel, holding her phone out to take a picture of her husband. I yell at her to get out of the way but she walks right into my path. I try to avoid her but lose control of the board which shoots up and hits her in the head. I tumble into the water, cushioning the fall with my left hand. When it hits bottom, my wedding ring slips off.

I stand up and apologize to the woman.

“I’m OK,” she says, holding her head. Her son and husband help her back to shore.

I return to the spot where I lost the ring. I search in two feet of water, sand obscuring the depths. I try for several minutes but can’t see bottom. In the afternoon, I continue the search. Nothing.

Back at the condo, I tell my wife, Lisa, I lost the ring. “Oh, honey,” she says, very disappointed. We’ve been married for 28 years, the ring a concrete symbol of that union. It’s hard to predict how a spouse or partner will react to the loss of a ring. There are superstitions around losing rings. Sometimes it’s no big deal; other times

Reddit users left stunned by man’s horrific wedding ring injury: ‘Don’t get married’

Warning graphic content

A husband’s unfortunate wedding ring injury has sparked an intense reaction on social media.

Images of the man’s extreme wound were shared on Reddit, showing how the flesh under where his band would usually sit had been severely eroded away.

But while many assumed that the trauma was caused by the husband’s refusal to remove his wedding ring for a long period of time, this was not the case.

It’s understood the man was changing a motor in his boat when a live wire touched the band, leading to a significant electrical burn.

The news caused many tradesmen to share warnings about wearing jewellery while working with “electronics, welding equipment, or heavy machinery”.

“Yep, I’m an electrician who’s getting married later this year. I’m either gonna get a bunch of silicon bands or one made out of titanium so that it’s non-conductive because it’s a legitimate risk,” said one.

Another wrote: “Rings are dangerous. I was throwing a tyre into the back of a truck and my ring caught on the rim. The ring had to be cut off after almost degloving me.”

Added one more: “This happened to my uncle when he was trying to remove a battery from a car. The wrench went across the terminals and was touching his ring.

“He almost had to have his finger amputated because the severe burn almost severed all blood flow to his finger. He was lucky and his finger healed after getting a graft.”

Others said they were convinced the injury had been caused from

But when one excited bride-to-be proudly showed off her bling on Facebook, things didn’t quite go to plan.

After her wedding bands arrived she excitedly snapped a picture, before putting them back in the box ahead of the big day.

“I’m not married yet but my wedding bands just came in and I’m obsessed,” she captioned the pictures.

The images were then shared on the Facebook group ‘That’s it, I’m wedding shaming’ where not everyone was a fan of the bride‘s bling.

The anonymous user who shared the pictures wrote: “Girl put it back in the gum ball machine for a little kid to get.”

And she wasn’t the only one who thought the ring was a bit much, another user jabbed: “Excuse me! Gumball machine indeed!

“That is a fantastic accessory for the upcoming Barbie movie first!”

And another commented on the post: “These are like the rings from those bath bombs or candles.”

“Look I’m absolutely obsessed with pink and barbie theme etc but this makes me wanna gag lmao,” someone else wrote.

A third agreed: “Listen I love coloured gemstones for engagement rings but I feel like if the main stone is going to be a bright colour you gotta understate everything else otherwise it’s too much and looks like a cocktail ring instead of your engagement ring.

Princess Diana was spotted wearing the ring on several occasions, including in 1997.

Daddario paired the ring with a sheath-style Danielle Frankel gown.

Metal detectors banned from wedding ring search on Costa Blanca beach in Spain

DETECTORISTS have criticised a ban from a Costa Blanca council on looking for a missing wedding ring on a beach with a metal detector.

A woman lost the ring on Guardamar’s Playa Centro on July 25.

Guardamar council passed a local law in August 2021 which banned searches for objects and coins with metal detectors ‘under sands or dunes to protect archaeological sites close to municipality beaches’.

Law breakers face a fine of up to €200.

The woman desperately tried to find the ring on her own and then resorted to contacting the Valencian Association of Detectoaficionados to see if one of their members could help.

The group was aware of the Guardamar law and contacted the council for permission to use a metal detector at an exact location where the lady saw her ring fall into the sand.

The council refused to budge which means the ring is lost for good.

The Association slammed the decision saying the council ‘puts archaeological remains which do not reach the depth of a metal detector above the possible benefit of cleaning metallic and dangerous garbage for beach users’.

It added that it was disappointed residents and tourists are not allowed to use detectors to recover objects of great sentimental value.

They also queried what exact archaeological work is being carried out, if any, at Guardamar’s Playa Centro.

Kate Middleton Didn’t Wear Her Engagement Ring and the Internet Is Freaking Out

When your engagement ring happens to be one of most iconic rings ever made, it’s no wonder the world keeps a close eye on it at all times.

That’s exactly why the internet was aflutter this week after Kate Middleton stepped out at the Commonwealth Games with hubby Prince William and Princess Charlotte, too. Sure, she was dressed to the nines in a kate-middleton-style” data-ylk=”slk:white Alexander McQueen suit” class=”link “white Alexander McQueen suit, but her ring finger was noticeably less blingy, adorned with only her gold wedding band vs. the sapphire and diamond sparkler that once belonged to Princess Diana and was passed down to her upon her engagement to William in 2010.

So, where was the ring? My co-host Roberta Fiorito and I discuss a zillion reasons for its absence on this week’s episode of the Royally Obsessed podcast (listen to it here!). No, it has nothing to do with marital troubles. Our main take: It was likely getting cleaned or had a stone in need of repair. But also, Kate has only been pictured without it a handful of times (for example, on this hospital visit in 2020 and again in 2018), which is why it always makes headlines when she’s pictured without it on.

On the flip side, Kate’s engagement ring was the subject of recent conversations for a very different reason: The risk she took while engagement-ring-scuba-diving” data-ylk=”slk:wearing it scuba diving in Belize during her royal tour of the Caribbean” class=”link “wearing it scuba diving in Belize during her royal tour of the Caribbean with Prince William. The mum-of-three showed off her incredible figure in a white strappy top and blue ripped jeans.

She flashed a big smile as she posed for photos, with her huge engagement ring and wedding band missing from her left hand.

Earlier that day, Christine shared a snap of herself standing in the crowd at the historic event with her followers on Instagram.

The star, who recently split from husband Paddy McGuiness, paid tribute to the women’s England team in the caption.

Christine captioned the post: “Things I love to see 😍

Despite her supportive words, it could also be seen as a sly dig towards Paddy, 48, after it was revealed that she accused her husband of flirting with lookalike blonde TV star as their marriage collapsed.

It comes after earlier this month Christine and Paddy announced that they had separated after 15 years together.

The pair each posted identical statements on Instagram where they opened up about the “difficult decision”.

In a joint statement signed off with a kiss, Christine, 34, and Paddy, 48, said they aimed to be the “best parents they could be”.

He then responds with “My ring!!!???” which she sarcastically texts back, “You think,” but then instead of a response, he gave a smug emoji.

Leon then asked if both of them are single this weekend then to which he replied no, but that’s not what it looked like to her.

She told him to enjoy his weekend and to have fun, but he responded, “Babe, omg, I forgot.”

Leon decided to get some proper revenge on her husband.

Instead of letting it go, Leon decided to do something sinister and locked him out of his bank card. Instead of pouting at home, she decided to celebrate her weekend by going out too.

Her video ends with her and her friend pouring booze into her mouth straight from the bottle with her partying on the
